FERNWOOD / TOPANGA, Los Angeles County — California State Parks launched a formal public engagement process in 2026 to plan long-term restoration of Topanga State Park and Will Rogers State Historic Park following the 2025 Palisades Fire.

The agency says the fire burned approximately 8,192 acres within Topanga State Park and another 189 acres at Will Rogers. State Parks’ recovery planning considers visitor access, protection of habitats and historic resources, damaged facilities and future resilience.

What nearby residents can do

Fernwood residents who use Topanga trails or are affected by park closures should consult State Parks’ recovery project information for current comments, meetings and access notices. An announcement that engagement began in 2026 does not guarantee that any particular trail is now open or that reconstruction is complete.

Community input is distinct from a final adopted project or construction contract. Before entering damaged open space, obey posted closures and verify current state-park conditions.
