FERNWOOD, Los Angeles County — Caltrans confirmed that a slope-repair project near Fernwood Market on State Route 27 reached a milestone on October 29, 2025.
The agency removed temporary one-way controls between Fernwood Pacific Drive and Grand View Drive after workers installed gabion baskets—rock-filled wire structures used to stabilize a hillside. The project followed a landslide in late 2024 and was delayed by the Palisades Fire and winter storms.
Old notices are not live traffic alerts
Caltrans cautioned in its 2025 statement that other portions of Topanga Canyon Boulevard still had recovery-related restrictions. The completion of this particular slope repair does not establish that all of SR-27 is free of closures in November 2026.
Drivers should check the official Caltrans QuickMap before travel and follow on-site flaggers and signs. The published repair history is useful context for understanding why traffic restrictions have periodically affected Fernwood.
